*All Technicians wishing to become state licensed smog inspection technicians, must take the Basic Clean Air Car Course to partially satisfy the education prerequisite for either of the license technician categories currently available. Students entering the course must have one year experience/education in the automotive engine performance area prior to entering the course. The course instructor shall determine if the student has the required automotive knowledge to enter the course (e.g. pretest).


The course is a 96 hours in length, and covers the following topic areas:

 

· Operation of the BAR 97EIS emission analyzer system for the Basic Area Program

· Bureau rules and regulations

· Smog Check Program 2009 and 2011 Update Course

· Vehicle emission testing procedures for the Basic Area Program

          *Required for Emission Basic Technician License

Our 600 hour Modern Automotive Technology program is designed around the State of California, Bureau of Automotive Repair minimum required to be eligible to take the State Advanced Emission Technician Test. Due to the intensity of the course our students can be eligible to take the State Exam within six months of starting the program.  However, if a student wishes he/she can go at a slower pace.  Modules or classes may be repeated at no additional charge if required.  Retest fees may apply.

To help make our graduates more employable we have added as an integral part of the program 32 Hours of Air Conditioning theory, diagnosis and repair as well as the International Mobile Air Conditioning Association’s Certification for refrigerant recovery, handling, recharging and retrofitting.

 

To help our graduates find employment, we maintain a job offering database and bulletin board of employment opportunities in Los Angeles and Orange county.  This  vicinity.  During the last month of the program our full time student is interfaced with shop owners, manager and technicians, who are upgrading their skills.

The 2011 Update Training Course will include lectures, homework assignments, laboratory examinations and written final examination. Materials (including a study guide) will be provided to the student by the start of the first class. Homework assignments will include reading two magazine articles and completing an Internet assignment.  The course will be 16 hours in length, and will include the following subject areas:
